Subscription box packaging

Custom subscription box packaging is an E-flute mailer with a tuck tab lid, printed inside and out and sized to the carrier rate band you ship in, with an insert or divider for the month's products. Tria makes subscription boxes from 200 units, 10 to 14 business days after proof approval, so a 50 subscriber launch and a 5000 subscriber month run on the same box. Common sizes are 9 by 6 by 3 and 11 by 8 by 4 inches.

Size for the carrier first

Pick the smallest inside dimensions that hold the contents with about a quarter inch of clearance, then check the outside dimensions against the carrier's dimensional weight and cubic tiers. Staying under half a cubic foot and under 18 inches on any side opens the cheapest bands. Our carrier rate sizing guide walks through the math.

One box, changing contents

Products change every month; the box usually should not. Design one mailer size that fits your largest typical month, and use an insert or divider to hold smaller sets still. A belly band or sticker can carry the month's theme without reprinting the box.

Inside print is the unboxing

A subscription box is opened on camera. Print the inside of the lid with a message or pattern, add tissue and a card, and protect the outside print with matte aqueous so it arrives clean. Reorders carry the same 200 minimum, and the saving is time, because the artwork and dieline are already approved.

Questions about subscription box packaging

What size should a subscription box be?

The smallest inside dimensions that hold your largest typical month with about a quarter inch of clearance. 9 by 6 by 3 and 11 by 8 by 4 inches are the common sizes, and staying under half a cubic foot opens the cheapest carrier bands.

Can subscription boxes be printed inside?

Yes. The subscription box prints inside and out, so the lid opens onto a message, a pattern or the month's theme.

What is the minimum for subscription boxes?

200 units, and reorders carry the same minimum. That lets a small launch and a large month run on the same box.

How do I hold different products each month?

Keep one box size and change the insert. A corrugated or paperboard insert, or a simple divider, holds smaller sets still without reprinting the box.

Kraft or white mailer for a subscription box?

Kraft with one color for a natural look and a lean budget. White for full color artwork that needs to print bright and true.
