Board follows the filled weight
18pt SBS carries most skincare. Once the filled product passes about 12 ounces, which takes in most glass over 100 ml, move to 24pt so the carton does not flex in the hand. Glass gets a paperboard cradle in either case. Our 18pt vs 24pt guide has the full rule.
Plan the back panel first
The ingredient list, net contents and responsible party take more room than designers expect, especially on a 30 ml dropper carton. Lay out the back panel on the dieline before the front artwork, and keep a clear, high-contrast area for it. Soft-touch and a single foil mark keep the front quiet and let the bottle do the talking.
Mailers for direct orders
If you sell online, the carton is a shelf box. Ship it in a cosmetic mailer with a 24pt insert, or a white mailer with a cradle, so jars and droppers stand up and glass never touches glass.
Labeling notes
Cosmetic labeling rules are in 21 CFR part 701: the ingredient declaration in descending order of predominance (701.3), the name and place of business (701.12) and the net quantity (701.13). A claim to treat or prevent a condition can make the product a drug; the FDA explains the line in Is It a Cosmetic, a Drug, or Both?
