When to choose it, and when not to
Choose a black mailer when the brand lives in black already: menswear, fragrance, tech accessories, premium coffee, spirits gift sets. A white logo on a matte black flute has a weight to it that kraft never quite gets, and it photographs well against almost any background. Black also hides shipping scuffs better than white, which matters if the box travels more than one leg before it lands.
Choose a kraft mailer when the brand wants to read as natural or small batch, since black reads as considered and formal. Choose a magnetic closure box if the black box is a gift that will be kept on a shelf, because a mailer is built to ship and the tuck lid will not feel like a keepsake.

Is the box made from black board or printed black?
Both are possible and they look different. A black outer liner is a dyed paper laminated to the flute, so the black is even and does not show white at the folds. A flood printed black on white board is cheaper on very short runs but shows a white line at every crease. We default to black liner from 200 units.
How does white ink print on black?
As a white screen or a white digital layer, laid down in one or two hits for opacity. Fine text under 8 point can fill in, so keep type at 9 point or larger. Reverse logos over about 3 inches wide look best with two hits.
Can I foil a black mailer?
Yes. Hot foil on a corrugated lid works well up to about 6 by 4 inches of coverage. Gold, silver and copper are stocked. Foil runs as an extra pass and adds 2 business days to the standard lead time.
Will the black scuff or show fingerprints?
A matte black liner will show light scuffing on the flute ridges after a long carrier journey. A soft-touch lamination hides it and adds a velvet feel, at the cost of about 3 business days. Fingerprints are only an issue on gloss, which we rarely recommend on black.
Can the inside be printed too?
Yes. The inside liner is white by default, so full color prints bright. A single solid color inside works well on a black mailer: a red, a forest green or a cream. It is one pass and does not change the lead time.

The black mailer uses a black outer liner, so it prints in white ink, one color, or gold, silver or copper foil, and it hides scuffs from the carrier. The white mailer box has a white top liner for full color photographs and exact brand colors, and it shows marks more easily. Both are E-flute mailers from 200 units; black runs 10 to 14 business days after proof and white 10 to 12 business days. A brand that already lives in black, menswear, fragrance or spirits, suits the black box. Colorful artwork needs white.
