Printed ribbon

Satin or grosgrain, repeat print500 minimum · 10 to 12 business days

Printed ribbon is satin or grosgrain ribbon with your logo or a short line of text repeated along the full length, sold by the roll for tying, wrapping, or a box closure. We produce it from 500 yards in one color, ready in about 10 to 12 business days after proof, and it's a different product from our ribbon-and-closure hardware, which is stock ribbon bundled with a box rather than printed to order.

When to choose it, and when not to

Choose printed ribbon when the ribbon itself needs to carry your logo repeatedly along a bow, a wrapped box, or a gift bag handle tie, common for florists, bakeries, and gift-set brands that hand-tie every order.

Choose our stock ribbon and closure hardware instead if you just need a plain satin tie or a magnet closure on a rigid box and the ribbon itself doesn't need branding, since stock ribbon ships faster and has no print minimum.

Questions people ask

What's the difference between hot-stamp foil and screen print on ribbon?

Hot-stamp foil presses a thin metallic or colored foil into the ribbon fiber, giving a crisp, slightly raised mark that reads well in gold or silver. Screen print lays ink flat on the surface, which works better for a larger logo or a design with more than one color.

Can I get the ribbon in a custom dye color, not just stock colors?

Yes, but custom dye lots have a much higher minimum than the printed length itself, usually 1,000 yards or more of the base ribbon before print. We usually suggest printing onto a close stock color instead.

How do I know what width I need?

3/8 inch suits a small gift bag handle tie or a narrow bow. 5/8 inch is the most common all-purpose width for box wraps and bows. 1 inch works for a wider box or a statement bow on a larger package.

Does the ribbon fray when cut?

Satin ribbon is heat-cut at the edge during finishing, which seals the edge against fraying. If you're cutting lengths yourself after delivery, a heat cutter or a lighter flame on the cut edge keeps it clean.

Can I order a shorter roll for a small test batch?

500 yards is our production minimum since that's what makes the print setup worthwhile, but at typical bow lengths that's usually several hundred finished bows, so it goes further than it sounds for most gifting programs.

Will the ribbon match my exact Pantone color?

Foil stamping gets close to most Pantones in gold, silver, or a handful of standard foil colors, but won't hit a custom spot color exactly. Screen printing onto the ribbon can match a Pantone more precisely.

How is printed ribbon different from ribbon and closure hardware?

Printed ribbon comes on the roll: 50 yards of satin or grosgrain with your logo hot-stamped in foil or screen printed every few inches, for anyone who ties ribbon by hand, florists, bakeries and gift shops. Ribbon and closure hardware is the set of parts that close a box, ribbon cut to length, magnets, elastic loops and hooks, fitted to a rigid box or supplied for one you already have. Printed ribbon starts at 500 units in 10 to 12 business days after proof; hardware at 200 units in 12 to 14 business days. Branding that gets tied goes on the roll; a pull tab or a closure built into the box is hardware.
