We produce them on 1200 gsm board with a linen wrap from 200 units, in 12 to 14 business days after proof. Common sizes are 7 by 5 by 3 and 9 by 7 by 4 inches.
When to choose it, and when not to
Choose a hinged lid box when the lid should stay attached and the box will be opened many times, not once. It is the jewelry box shape people already know: lid up, product framed against the inside of the lid, nothing to set down. A ribbon stay holds the lid at an angle so the inside of the lid becomes a backdrop for a logo or a line of text. It suits rings, watches, pens, cufflinks, small fragrance and anything kept on a dresser.
Choose a magnetic closure box instead when the lid needs to open fully flat for a wide reveal, because a ribbon stay stops short of that on purpose. Choose a two-piece lid and base box for products over about 4 inches deep, since a tall hinged lid puts strain on the wrap hinge every time it opens.

Questions people ask
How is the lid attached, and will the hinge wear out?
The lid and base share one continuous piece of wrap along the back edge, and a cloth or paper hinge strip is glued under the wrap to carry the load. Linen wrap is the best hinge material we use because the fibers flex rather than crease. We check the hinge on the prototype before we approve it.
What does the ribbon stay do?
It is a short length of satin ribbon glued inside the base and inside the lid so the lid stops at about 100 degrees and stays there. Without it the lid falls back to 180 degrees and the box lays flat. We usually suggest the stay for jewelry and watch boxes and leaving it off for gift sets.
Can the inside of the lid be flocked or printed?
Either. A velvet flocked lid lining in black, navy, cream or burgundy is the classic jewelry finish and hides fingerprints. A printed lid lining on the same wrap gives you a logo or a message facing the customer. Both add a day or so to the build, not to the lead time we quote.
How strong is the magnet?
Strong enough to hold the lid shut when the box is turned upside down with the product inside. We sink a single 3/8 in neodymium magnet into the lid at the front edge and a steel plate into the base wall. For boxes over 9 inches wide we fit two.
Can I get a white prototype first?
Yes, on request. The prototype is unprinted board with the real hinge and the real insert, so you can check the opening angle, the fit of your product and how the lid feels before committing the wrap and the print run. Timing is confirmed in your quote.

Both start at 200 units in 12 to 14 business days after proof. If the lid should stand open while the product is on show, choose the hinged lid.
