Tech and device box
1200 gsm, foam insert200 minimum · 12 to 14 business daysA tech and device box is a wrapped 1200 gsm rigid box with a foam or paperboard insert cut to the device, plus a compartment underneath for the cable, the manual and the accessories. We produce them from 200 units in 12 to 14 business days after proof, as a lift-off or magnetic lid. Common sizes are 7 by 7 by 2.5 inches and 10 by 7 by 3.
When to choose it, and when not to
Choose a tech and device box when the product is small, hard and expensive, and the box has to survive being opened on camera. A foam insert cut to the device means it sits exactly where the lid reveals it, and nothing rattles. The cable, plug and manual go in a tray underneath, so the first view is only the device. It suits earbuds, wearables, hubs, controllers, cameras, and any hardware sold direct.
Choose a full color printed mailer box instead when the device ships alone in the mail and the box will be opened once and recycled, because a corrugated mailer with a cradle protects for far less. Choose a drawer box when the device is small and the reveal matters more than the compartment underneath.

Questions people ask
Foam or paperboard insert?
Foam when the device is heavy, has an odd outline or needs a thumb scoop to lift it out. EVA foam is cut by CNC to the device drawing and holds it with almost no clearance. Paperboard when the brand wants a fully paper box or the device is light and flat, like a card reader. Both take a cable tray underneath.
How do you fit the cable and the manual?
In a tray under the device. The insert sits on a ledge about halfway down the box, and a paperboard tray below it holds the cable coiled around a card, the plug in a cut-out, and the manual flat on top. A ribbon lift or a thumb notch on the insert lets the customer find the tray after the device is out.
Why does the lid lift so slowly on a rigid tech box?
Because a tight lid on a rigid base traps air and lets it out slowly, which is the effect people film. We allow about 0.02 in of clearance on the lid and add no vent, so the lid rises over one to two seconds. If you want the lid to come off fast, tell us and we add a small vent notch inside the rim.
Can the insert be anti-static?
Yes. For bare boards, sensors or anything with exposed contacts we use anti-static EVA foam, which is pink or black and dissipates charge rather than holding it. We also add a tissue interleaf over the device. Standard foam is fine for a device in its own housing, like earbuds or a hub.
Do you make a prototype before the run?
Yes, on request: a white prototype with the real foam insert cut to your device drawing. Timing is confirmed in your quote. You check the lift, the fit and the tray with a real unit before we print. If the device is still in development, send the housing CAD and we work from that; changes to the insert after the prototype are quick.
How is the tech and device box different from the magnetic closure box?
The tech box is built around a device: wrapped 1200 gsm board, an EVA foam or paperboard insert cut to the device, a compartment underneath for the cable and manual, an anti-static option, and a lift-off lid with a thumb notch, a magnetic lid or a drawer. The magnetic closure box is the general rigid box with a magnet in the lid flap and a wider range of inserts. Both start at 200 units in 12 to 14 business days after proof. If the product has a cable, a manual and a device that must not move, start with the tech box.
